High level delegation departs to Sri Lanka for Joint Commission meeting

A high level delegation from the Maldives has departed to Colombo, Sri Lanka, for a meeting of the Maldives – Sri Lanka Joint Commission.

The meeting will be co-chaired by Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dhunya Maumoon and Sri Lankan Minister of External Affairs G L Peiris.

Dhunya is accompanied in her visit by Minister of Education Dr Aishath Shiham, Minister of Fisheries Dr Mohamed Shainee, and senior officials of government institutions.

The Maldives – Sri Lanka Joint Commission was established in 1984, under the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between the two countries. Five sessions of the Commission have been held to date, with the last session held in Male’ in April 2006.
