Minister of Education Dr Aishath Shiham has said that efforts are ongoing to introduce the subjects of Islam and Dhivehi to Maldivian students living in Trivandrum, India.
Dr Aishath Shiham said this while speaking to reporters after attending a meeting with principals of schools of three atolls, at STELCO in Male’, on Monday evening.
She said that this is part of the government’s manifesto, and that the subjects will be introduced by the end of the year.
She added that the subjects are already available to about 300 Maldivian students in Sri Lanka, and that this was facilitated by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
Referring to the meeting with the principals of all islands of Noonu, Raa, and Shaviyani Atolls, Dr Aishath Shiham said that the purpose of the meeting was to ensure that all teachers follow the policy employed by the Ministry of Education, and under this program, discussions will be held with principals of all schools across the country.
