Committee meeting with Police Commissioner regarding Rilwan, held in secret

The meeting of the Parliament Committee on National Security, to which Commissioner of Police Hussain Waheed was summoned for the inquiry regarding the police investigation into disappearance of Ahmed Rilwan, has been held in secret.

Minivan News journalist Rilwan is believed to have been missing since 8 August.

The Police Commissioner was summoned to the meeting at 7:30 p.m. The committee had also summoned Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer to the same meeting, but he was unable to attend as he is not in Male’.

A member of the Parliamentary Group of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) told Sun Online that the meeting was held behind closed doors as ‘issues related to national security’ were discussed at the meeting. He did not disclose any details.

Police have seized a private car, and withheld passports of four individuals as part of their investigation into Rilwan’s disappearance.
