Man receives 15-year prison sentence for possession of drugs

A man has been fined MVR 25,000 and sentenced to fifteen years in prison by Criminal Court for possession of drugs.

This ruling against Abdul Fatthah Hussain of Zamaanee Kula, Raa Rasmaadhoo, came after the court found him guilty of possession of drugs on 19 March 2013.

The court said in its ruling that Fatthah was arrested on a speedboat near a petrol shed on Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Henveyru in Male’, following which police searched the area and found a packet containing a substance believed to be drugs. Further investigation revealed that the packet contained 0.0195 gram diamorphine (heroin).

Fatthah has been ordered to pay the fine in full to Criminal Court within one month.
