President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has today proposed to the Parliament, five new nominees for the membership of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The five nominees are; current ACC President Hassan Luthfee, the commission's current Vice President Muaviz Rasheed, and three fresh nominees, Aminath Minna, Yazumeed Mohamed and Sofwath Mohamed.
Terms of the five ACC members currently in office will expire on 9 September. Apart from the commission’s president and vice president, the remaining three members in office, Mohamed Shafeeu, Abdulla Hilmy and Khadheeja Rasheed, also applied for a new term, but were not nominated.
The President’s Office revealed today that a total of 47 candidates applied for the ACC membership. The deadline for applications closed on 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
The President’s Office has also forwarded the names of the remaining applicants to the Parliament, as required by the Anti-Corruption Commission Act.
