Parliament approves three candidates for PIC membership

The Parliament has today approved three members for Police Integrity Commission (PIC) membership.

Fathimath Sareera Ali and Ali Nadheem passed the parliament vote with 73 in favour, while Mohamed Farhaad was approved with 56 votes in favour.

All three nominations were forwarded for parliament approval by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom in early July. Terms of three exiting members at PIC expired on 26 July.

Nadheem passed the parliament vote today despite being rejected by the Independent Institutions Committee for failing the committee evaluation earlier this month.

Candidate Adam Zahir, who had also failed the committee evaluation, was rejected by the parliament with 61 votes against and 5 votes in favour at the sitting today.
