Man arrested over discovery of pregnant minor

A man has been arrested after a 14 year-old-girl was found to be pregnant in Laamu Atoll.

The case was reported to the police on 4 August and is under investigation, police said. Police did not provide details due to the sensitivity of the case.

The suspect, a 26-year-old man arrested on 5 August, has been remanded into police custody for a period of 15 days.

Sun Online is aware that the girl stopped going to school in early July. A source said that the people of the island suspect the pregnancy to be the result of sexual abuse. The girl is currently under the protection of Ministry of Law and Gender.
