Committee approves two candidates for PIC membership

Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions has decided to recommend Fathimath Sareera Ali Shareef and Mohamed Farhaad for the membership of the Police Integrity Commission (PIC).

Fathimath Sareera passed the committee review with 91.2 percent score, while Mohamed Farhaad achieved 76.5 percent score. A minimum of 75 percent is required to pass the committee review and gain a recommendation. The endorsement will be asked for vote on the parliament floor.

Two other candidates; Adam Zahir and Ali Nadheem, also sent for parliament endorsement by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom for the PIC membership, did not pass the committee evaluation.

The term of three exiting members at PIC expired on 26 July.
