Help Gaza Telethon countdown begins

A countdown for the Help Gaza Telethon, organized by local broadcasters and media outlets to raise funds for the Muslims suffering under Israeli aggression in Gaza, has kicked off at 2:30 p.m. today.

Local television stations plan to show one-hour programs every day until the start of the 33-hour 30-minute long telethon, scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Programs for the one-hour segments are designed to provide information on activities for the telethon, and will also include interviews with organizers and contributors of the cause, said organizers of the telethon.

Help Gaza Telethon, in a press statement released today, invited local organizations in the atolls and across the country to stage activities and to fax a letter with their intent to join the telethon to the line 3315384.

Contributions to the cause can be made to donation boxes in difference locations in Male’ and the islands, as well as through SMS. The money collected through SMS will be deposited to a special account at the national bank, Bank of Maldives, the organizers have said.

The telethon will run from 2:30 p.m. on Friday until 12:00 a.m. on Sunday, and will carry the hashtag #HelpGazaMv.
