A group of about 50 local employees at Palm Beach Resort and Spa Maldives have gone on strike over discrimination by the resort’s General Manager (GM).
Ahmed Abdulla, a staff at Palm Beach Resort told Sun Online that employees from Food and Beverages and Housekeeping departments stopped work around 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday night.
“The General Manager discriminates a lot. He rarely talks to the local staff, and he is often rude to us. The GM will not acknowledge us even if we say hello. So we have decided we will not resume work as long as he remains as the GM,” said Ahmed Abdulla.
A staff from the resort’s Human Resources Department told Sun Online that the strike was instigated by three employees, and that they are trying to negotiate with the staff to end to the deadlock.
The Human Resource officer further said that they will be forced to issue letters of warning to the staff if the strike continues.
