Government’s policy is to provide policing to the doorsteps of the general public, said Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer speaking at the annual Police Memorial Day event on Wednesday night.
He said that police must evolve into a pro-active force that focuses on prevision of crime and that the current government’s policy is to provide a dependable and efficient service.
“The government’s policy today is to take policing service to the people’s doorsteps. To take action to prevent a crime rather than to react after it happens,” said Umar Naseer.
The Home Minister further appealed to the police force to be active and said that they must not entertain the notion of moving to desk job after achieving a certain rank. He also noted that rotating officers through different duties gives them more exposure and experience.
“I have noticed that police are rotated from different islands and duties. An officer must have the opportunity to work in different environments to be come an alert policeman,” Umar Naseer said.
