MIRA collects MVR 5.67 billion in first half of 2014

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has collected MVR 5.67 billion in taxes during the first six months of 2014, a 22 percent increase from the MVR 4.66 billion collected during the same period in 2013.

The principal tax collector revealed that the majority, MVR 2.33 billion and 41.2 percent of the total revenue, was received from Goods and Services Tax (GST). The second-most-amount of revenue was collected from Business Profit Tax (BPT), MVR 1.39 billion, 24.6 percent of the total.

MIRA also collected MVR 544 million in Tourism Land Rent, MVR 383 million in Bed Tax and MVR 227 million in Airport Service Charge during the first six months of 2014.

The authority collected MVR 1.27 billion in June 2014, a 27.2 percent increase compared to June 2013. The revenue in June 2014 was also the second-most-revenue collected by the authority in a month, and 24.8 percent greater than the revenue projected for July 2014.

MIRA collected a record MVR 1.30 billion in taxes in January 2014.
