Some passengers were injured when a ferry boat travelling from Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi ran aground on the breakwater of Haa Dhaalu Kumundhoo around 12:30 p.m. today.
The boat, named Hoara, was travelling from Kulhudhuffushi to Kumundhoo with 75 passengers.
President of Kumundhoo Council Ali Anwar told Sun Online that a few passengers were injured, and that property on the boat was damaged in the incident. Injuries to the passengers were minor and they were brought to the island safely, he said.
“All those who were travelling on the ferry were rescued. Some suffered scratches and small injuries when the boat reclined. They are being treated at the health centre,” said Ali Anwar.
The ferry boat was heavily damaged in the incident. Police and locals in Kumundhoo are working to move the boat back to sea.
