Committee green-lights approval of Vice President and Ministers

Parliament’s Government Accountability Committee has given the green light for the approval of fourteen Ministers and Mohamed Waheeddeen (Deen) as Vice President. The Committee also made the decision to present each name separately to the Parliament floor for approval.

Majority at the Government Accountability Committee is held by parties in the current coalition government. Six members out of ten present at today’s meeting voted for green-lighting approval of VP and Ministers; while Macchangolhi Uthuru MP Mariya Ahmed Didi, MDP Vice President and Feydhoo MP Alhan Fahmy, and Madaveli MP Ahmed Nazim voted against it. Committee Chairperson and PPM Parliamentary Group Member Mohamed Mujthaz Fahmy abstained.

After this decision was made at the meeting held at 11.15 today, the issue has been submitted to the Speaker of Parliament.
