President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has changed the name of the Ministry of Health and Gender, to the Ministry of Health.
The Ministry of Health will be mandated with overseeing the country’s health and social protection sectors, President’s Office said today.
Under this revision, the government agencies brought under the purview of the Ministry of Health are; Maldives Food and Drug Authority, Maldivian Blood Services, Thalassemia and Other Haemoglobinopathies Centre, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Hulhumale’ Hospital, Regional Hospitals, Atoll Hospitals, Health Centres and Health Posts.
The Minister of Health will also oversee the Social Protection Agency, the National Drug Agency, and the Health Protection Agency.
Following the decision to change name of the Ministry of Health and Gender, to the Ministry of Health, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom today re-appointed Dr. Maryam Shakeela as the Minister for Health. The appointment ceremony was held this afternoon at the President’s Office.
Dr Shakeela has held the position of Minister of Health and Gender since 21 November 2013.
