The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced that Sunday, 29 June will be the first day of Ramadan this year.
This was announced in a statement issued tonight by the ministry after a meeting regarding the sighting of the moon.
The statement was delivered at a ceremony at the Islamic Centre, by Minister of State for Islamic Affairs Sheikh Mohamed Didi.
He said that since the moon had not been sighted in any region in the Maldives or in any Islamic country, tomorrow, Saturday, 28 June 2014 will be 30 Shauban 1435 in the Islamic calendar, and Sunday, 29 June 2014 will be 1 Ramadan 1435.
