The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has found Supreme Court Judge Ali Hameed not guilty of charges of sexual relations outside of marriage.
JSC announced this decision today - more than one year after it commenced its investigation into this case.
The commission said that the Forensic Service Directorate of Maldives Police Service had not been able to prove that the person seen in the leaked video, which allegedly shows Ali Hameed engaging in sexual activities outside of marriage, is in fact Ali Hameed.
JSC said that Maldives Police Service had confirmed that the investigation had been closed on account of not being able to obtain sufficient evidence to prove the charges, and thus, taking disciplinary action against the judge cannot be justified as long as sufficient evidence had not been produced to prove the ethics violations alleged against him.
