Dead whale washes ashore on island near Fenfushi

A dead humpback whale has washed ashore on Bodu Finolhu, an uninhabited island near Fenfushi in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll.

Fenfushi Council President Shahid Abdul Raheem told Sun Online that the 50-foot whale was found yesterday by a boat from Sun Island Resort.

“A small dive boat from Fenfushi went to the scene when the sighting was reported. A foul smell had already spread in the area,” Shahid told Sun Online.

He also said that efforts are ongoing with advice from Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) to remove the whale, before its remains decompose further.
