Medical Negligence Bill recalled

Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam has recalled the Medical Negligence Bill submitted to the 18th parliament early this month.

The first reading of the bill was completed during the last sitting on 9 June and the bill was due for debate today.

Withdrawing the bill, MP Rozaina said that parliament has yet to finalize standing committees and that she prefers to review the bill instead of waiting for the parliament to get the standing committees in order.

“Therefore, I would like the MDP parliamentary group to review this bill and to make the necessary changes, with counsel from the Medical Association,” said MP Rozaina.

The Medical Negligence Bill seeks to provide legal avenues for victims of medical negligence to find compensation for time and money lost due to a professional’s incompetence or further treatment that the patient might have to seek due to negligence.
