Banyan tree at Royal Caf

A large banyan tree inside the Royal Café compound in Medhuziyaarai Magu, Male’ fell around 8:00 a.m. today, obstructing the road and damaging some property.

There were no reported casualties in the incident, but the tree fell on top of a parked car, inflicting damage. The tree also took down a wall of Royal Café and the outer wall of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) main headquarters, Bandaara Koshi was also damaged.

A water pipe and electricity distribution box in Royal Café were also damaged in the incident.

MNDF officers are working to remove the tree to clear the road.
