Several members of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) have requested to take a vote of no-confidence against party leaders in its Gaumee Majlis meeting tomorrow.
A senior member of MDP confirmed to Sun on the condition of anonymity that a resolution has been submitted to the party office to take a vote of no-confidence against MDP President Dr Ibrahim Didi, Vice President Alhan Fahmy, Interim Chairperson Reeko Moosa Manik, and Finance Secretary Ahmed Mausoom.
It has also been proposed to agree that members do not have confidence in Party Secretary General Hassan Shah.
This issue was proposed by MDP Election Committee member and former chairman of NSPA Ibrahim Waheed.
Other issues on the agenda for tomorrow’s meeting include opening the election of a chairperson, and opening the primary for choosing a candidate for the next presidential election.
MDP party regulations indicate that the person who holds the post of President is the party’s chief leader. However MDP Gaumee Majlis has decided after Nasheed’s resignation that Nasheed is the party’s chief leader.
“If we are not the ruling party, the party president is the leader. As president, I tried to set up a cabinet as mentioned in the party regulations, but some members were not happy about that,” Didi said in an interview with Sun last week.
