The President’s Office has said that President Abdulla Yameen’s official visit to Pakistan has been postponed based on the advice of security forces in both countries.

Spokesperson at President’s Office Ibrahim Muaz Ali told Sun Online that this advice came following the recent terrorist attacks in Karachi.

“With just a few days left for the President to depart, the Maldivian security team has already travelled to Pakistan. They have advised that this is not the best time to make this visit. The Pakistani security forces have advised the same,” said Muaz.

He said that a new date will be announced later, for this visit on the invitation of Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif.

Jinnah International Airport in Karachi was attacked by the Taliban on Sunday and Monday. A total of 37 people, including the Taliban members who carried out the attack, died on Sunday.
