President to give MVR 1 million if national cricket team wins ACC Elite League

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has decided to give MVR 1 million to the national cricket team if they win the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Elite League 2014.

The President made this promise while speaking to the team’s manager Farhath Jaleel over the phone.

Cricket Board of Maldives said that the President congratulated the team for its victories thus far in the ACC Elite League, and that the President has also decided to provide salaries to the team members.

The President’s decision to provide MVR 90,000 as salaries when the cricket squad is formed every year, has also been announced by Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Farhath thanked the President on behalf of the team and the management for his decision to provide salaries to the team members.

Maldives has won two out of three matches at the ongoing ACC Elite League in Singapore. Saudi Arabia, with 6 points, is leading among the 6 countries participating in the tournament. Maldives, Singapore, and Kuwait are in second place with 4 points.

Maldives will play against Saudi Arabia tomorrow.
