Parliament has today announced Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) parliamentary group leader MP Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik as the majority leader of parliament and Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) parliamentary group leader MP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as the minority leader of parliament.
Ruling party PPM has a strength of 38 MPs and the main opposition MDP has a total of 25 MPs in parliament. A total of 85 constituencies are represented in the 18th parliament.
Parliament also announced today 5 MPs to preside over the sittings in the absence of the speaker and the deputy speaker.
The MPs are; Holhudhoo MP Ali Mohamed, Kandhitheemu MP Mohamed Hussain, Hinnavaru MP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Heveyru-north MP Abdulla Shahid and Guraidhoo MP Hussain Manik. They will take the chair according to their terms of service in parliament.
