Woman arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs to husband in prison

A woman has been arrested for trying to smuggle drugs to her husband in Maafushi Prison during visitation.

The 26-year-old woman was arrested around 11:45 a.m. in Maafushi Prison on Sunday after police discovered 3 bullets of suspected drugs on her persons. The search was prompted by a tip-off, said the police.

The husband is serving a 25-year sentence on drug charges.

A police officer was arrested in late April for trying to smuggle drugs into Male’ Custodial, the main police detention facility in the capital.
