Government extends bidding for Male

Maldives government has extended the deadline for submission of bids for the construction of a bridge between the capital Male’ and the airport island Hulhule’.

Media Official at the Ministry of Economic Development told Sun Online today that the Ministry will now accept bids until 2:00 p.m. on 23 June. The bidding period was previously set to expire on 9 June.

“The decision was made after requests from numerous companies,” the official said.

Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed said in January that 19 companies have expressed interest for the contractor-finance project.

The Minister said the 19 “international standard” companies include 11 companies from China, 2 companies from India, in addition to companies from the U.S., UK, Turkey, Australia, and a few local companies.
