A fire at Hotel Relax Inn tonight has left the top of the building heavily damaged.
The fire broke out around 8:15 p.m. There were no reported casualties in the incident. The terrace and top floor of the building sustained damages. Spectators observed glass shattering from the building’s windows. MNDF has yet to reveal the full extent of the damage.
Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Fire and Rescue teams, jointly with police officers, were able to extinguish the fire within 15 minutes. Firemen hosed the building with water from a building adjacent to Hotel Relax Inn.
MNDF Sergeant Mohamed Farish told reporters that the building was evacuated as soon as possible and that elevators were shut down quickly. The fire was soon brought under control and extinguished, Sgt Mohamed Farish said.
