Reclamation of land and construction of an airport has begun in Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo.
Mohamed Zameer Ismail, Kudahuvadhoo Island Council President told Sun Online today that reclamation work began on 30 May and that materials required for airport construction have been brought to the island.
Netherlands based Boskalis International is carrying out the dredging project. Over 25 percent of the 65-hectares of land has been reclaimed and reclamation is expected to finish by the first week of July. The airport project is expected to be completed within a year.
Kudahuvadhoo land reclamation project is funded by the government and the airport is to be constructed by a private company on contractor-finance basis.
