High Court upholds Criminal Court

The High Court has upheld the acquittal by Criminal Court of former Maradhoo MP Hassan Adil in the case against him for sexual abuse of a minor.

Criminal Court ruled on 29 March 2013 that Adil was not guilty of the charges filed by the State, which was then appealed in High Court by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The State has accused Adil of repeatedly abusing a 13-year-old girl from December 2010 onwards.

Criminal Court said in its ruling that the State had not presented enough evidence to prove its claims against the defendant.

The trial was conducted behind closed doors as it involved claims of sexual abuse of a minor.
