Transport Authority of Maldives (TAM) and Maldivian Red Crescent have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide first aid training to local taxi drivers and drivers providing transport services to the public.
Minister of Transport and Communication Ameen Ibrahim and Secretary General of Maldivian Red Crescent Abdul Razzaq Ibrahim signed the MoU at the ministry today.
Speaking at the event, Transport Minister Ameen highlighted the importance of such a program and said that drivers serving the public must be equipped with the necessary skills to face an emergency.
Ameen noted the recent difficulties faced by taxi drivers due to the newly enacted taxi regulation and thanked the drivers for their support in its implementation. The regulation ultimately benefits the public and must be heeded by all relevant parties, the Transport Minister said.
Maldivian Red Crescent Secretary General Abdul Razzaq Ibrahim said the drivers will often be the first to arrive at an accident site and that the first aid program is an important step towards public safety.
