Ministry of Education has said that the number of students who passed five subjects in the Ordinary Level (O’Level) exam increased by 2 percent in 2013 compared with 2012.

Deputy Minister of Education Dr Abdulla Nazeer said that this number has been increasing for the past four years.

The percentage of students who passed five subjects in the O’level exam in 2013 and 2012 was 43 and 41 respectively, while the percentages for 2011 and 2010 were 37 and 35 respectively.

Nazeer said that the number of students who made it to the top ten also increased in 2013 - by 53 -when compared with 2012.

A total of 478 students made it to the top ten in 2013, while only 426 made it in 2012.

The top ten of 2013 was made up of 284 boys and 194 girls.

The number of students who received U grade went down in 2013 compared with 2012.

In 2013, 11.8 percent students received U grade; while 13 percent received U grade in 2012, 17 percent in 2011, and 19 percent in 2010.

A total of 6,181 students sat the O’Level exam in 2013 from 194 schools across the country.
