Dharubaaruge locks changed, transferred to Housing Ministry

The locks have been changed of Dharubaaruge building, the main event hall in Male', as it was transferred from Male’ City Council to Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure earlier today.

Officials of Housing Ministry arrived at Dharubaaruge this afternoon and requested City Council to hand over the building, which the council refused.

Male’ City Council Member Samau Shareef, who was at the scene, told Sun Online that Dharubaaruge had been given to the council by the government, and while Housing Ministry was trying to reclaim it, no court or relevant institution had issued any order to return the building to the ministry.

Dharubaaruge was locked up by Housing Ministry following City Council’s refusal to hand it over to police.

Police also halted efforts to remove chairs from Dharubaaruge for an event organised by Male’ City Council.

The police spokesperson said that police assisted the efforts to transfer Dharubaaruge to Housing Ministry following an order from Ministry of Home Affairs.

Police were earlier asked by Home Ministry to take necessary action to prevent entrance by unauthorised personnel to Dharubaaruge, and to prevent removal of any items from Dharubaaruge.

Male’ City Deputy Mayor Shifa Mohamed has said that Dharubaaruge was transferred to Housing Ministry unlawfully, and a case will be filed to court.
