Rehendhi Award ceremony postponed

The Rehendhi Award ceremony scheduled for tomorrow, to mark International Women’s Day, has been postponed following the death of Chairperson of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (Mifco) Dr Faathin Hameed.

Ministry of Health and Gender said that a new date for the ceremony will be announced later.

Faathin Hameed passed away at 12:45 p.m. today in Bangalore, India, after a one and a half year battle with cancer.

Rehendhi Award was introduced by the government to honour women’s achievements and services. It is presented at a special ceremony to mark International Women’s Day, which is 8 May, every year.
