Detention extended for officer arrested for smuggling drugs to custodial

Criminal Court has allowed an additional 15 days for the detention of the police officer arrested for trying to smuggle drugs into Male’ Custodial.

The officer was arrested on Wednesday night during a visit to the detention centre. Regular officers often visit the facility to collect evidence and statements from detainees. Male’ Custodial is the main police detention facility in the capital.

In February this year, a 20-year-old man and a minor were arrested for trying to smuggle drugs into the country's primary prison in Maafushi island.
