The construction of the new Lemongrass restaurant at Alimas Carnival has been halted by police.
The surrounding area, near Dinemore restaurant, has been cordoned off by police tape.
Director of Lemongrass Ahmed Atheef Hussain told Sun Online today that they were informed by police yesterday, that Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure had claimed that the restaurant was being constructed in violation of regulations, and requested police to halt these efforts.
He said that police arrived at the scene today, asked them to halt the construction and cordoned off the area by tape.
Atheef said that all major work has already been completed and their aim was to open the restaurant during Ramadan, which begins at the end of June.
He said that permission was granted by City Council, which owns the land at Alimas Carnival area, prior to the construction of the new Lemongrass restaurant.
Male’ City Council said that the restaurant was being constructed in accordance with permission granted by the former City Council.
Housing Ministry has also, following its claim that the restaurant was being constructed in violation of regulations, repeatedly asked City Council to halt these efforts.
