National Security Committee of the Parliament as approved President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s nomination of former Chief of Defence Force Major General (Retired) Moosa Ali Jaleel as the new High Commissioner of the Maldives accredited to Pakistan.
President Yameen nominated Moosa Ali Jaleel for this post and sent it to the committee for approval by the parliament on 3 April.
The committee approved this nomination after assessment yesterday.
The committee’s report on the matter states that some members did not support appointing Moosa Ali Jaleel to this post, as he already receives several allowances as a retired military officer. The members argued that the State would have to provide him even more as salary and allowances, if he is appointed High Commissioner.
Moosa Ali Jaleel recently joined ruling party, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). He is a national hero who contributed greatly to defending the country in the 3 November 1988 coup attempt.
