Man dies after falling into sea near Felivaru

A man has died after falling into the sea from a boat traveling near Lhaviyani Felivaru.

The incident took place at 12.37 p.m., and the deceased is Ahmed Shafeeq, 35, Kaafu Kaashidhoo.

Shafeeg was removed from the water by officers of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Northern Area Squadron, and promptly taken to Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital.

Acting Head of Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital Abdul Wahid Mohamed told Sun Online that Shafeeg was taken to the hospital at 1:10 p.m.

“Doctors said that he was dead when he arrived in hospital, and that he had died from drowning. Efforts are ongoing by his family, police and MNDF to transport the body to Kaashidhoo,” he said.

MNDF said that Shafeeg fell into the water from a boat named Vaihiya which was traveling from Kaafu Kaashidhoo to Lhaviyani Hinnavaru, and that he was unconscious when he was removed from the water.
