President Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that university graduates must learn to be more perseverant and self-confident.
The president made this remark while speaking at a ceremony held to mark the completion of courses at the Maldives National University (MNU).
“When you complete university education and go out to work, you’ll be faced with several disheartenments and setbacks. University graduates must hold on to the concept of perseverance, and be persistent in doing things despite difficulties,” he said.
President Yameen urged students to see defeats as stepping stones to move forward in life, and said that if they are confident and continue trying, they will succeed.
He addressed lecturers at the university and highlighted the importance of introducing education and training programs for all industries in the country.
He said that the country’s future depends on its higher education institutions, and urged relevant parties to ensure that students who leave universities and colleges have the practical training and knowledge to be able to find jobs.
He called on lecturers to make the necessary reforms within universities and colleges, to ensure that this is facilitated.
A total of 828 students completed courses in the first term at MNU. Certificates were presented to 334 graduates yesterday morning, and 334 graduates at last night’s ceremony.
MNU conducts Master’s Degree, Post Graduate Certificate, Bachelor’s Degree, Advanced Diploma, Advanced Certificate, and Certificate 3 courses.
