Fire breaks out in Kihaadhuffaru

A fire has broken out at Kihaad Maldives Resort located at Baa Kihaadhuffaru.

The fire broke out at the second floor of Athama Palace, the two-storey residence of the owner.

An employee of Kihaad Maldives told Sun Online that the incident took place around 1:00 p.m., and that Athama Palace was damaged in the fire.

“There was no one in the palace when the fire broke out. We believe it was caused by an electrical short circuit, because the fire was most severe near the electrical wires,” he said.

The fire was controlled by firemen and resort employees within about ten minutes.

A police team is on its way to the island to investigate the incident.
