Supreme Court imposes travel ban on Elections Commission members

Supreme Court has issued an order against the members of the Elections Commission prohibiting them from leaving Male’ or traveling abroad.

This travel ban comes in relation to contempt charges against the Elections Commission members, initiated by Supreme Court itself.

This order was issued in the presence of the four members today, who were summoned to Supreme Court for 4:30 p.m.

Director General of Elections Commission Mohamed Shakeel said that the Elections Commission members will comply with the Supreme Court order.

He said that the four members have also been summoned to Supreme Court for 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Three hearings have been held thus far for the contempt case against Elections Commission members.
