Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has asked Civil Court to rule that the case filed by Feydhoo MP Alhan Fahmy, requesting annulment of MDP’s Feydhoo Primary Election, cannot be processed in court.
Speaking in court today, lawyer representing MDP Abdulla Shair requested the court to dismiss the case based on the claim that relevant requirements stated in the Basic Regulation of MDP were not fulfilled by MP Alhan when filing this case to court.
Responding to this claim, MP Alhan accused MDP of wasting time in court, and said that MDP’s regulation states that decisions by its Elections Committee could be filed to its Appeal Committee – and the phrase ‘could be filed’ meant that it was not compulsory to do so.
Civil Court Judge Ali Naseer announced that a decision on the procedural issue raised by MDP will be announced at 8:00 p.m. tonight, before adjourning the trial.
