Elections Commission (EC) has revealed that by the end of the deadline on Friday, 62,712 voters submitted re-registration forms to vote in the parliamentary election.
Re-registration is required for voters who wish to vote away from their permanent addresses.
EC’s Director General Mohamed Shakeel told Sun today that a minimum of 300 voters have register for overseas stations for the stations to receive ballot boxes. India and Sri Lanka have qualified to receive ballot boxes, he said.
The parliamentary election, scheduled for 22 March, will see 302 candidates compete for 85 seats. Over 240,000 people are eligible to vote to elect the 18th parliament.
