A Bangladeshi waiter was attacked at a café in south-west harbour last night, for refusing to serve coffee.
The incident took place around 4:35 a.m. in Lhiyanu café, after the café had closed for the night. The waiter was taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital. His condition is not reported to be serious.
Police said they trying to find the two individuals who attacked the waiter and vandalized the café.
A waiter at the same café said the two men came into the establishment late last night and demanded to be served coffee. When the waiter in-charge of the cashier refused, the men hit him on the head with a plastic chair and vandalized the café, the waiter said.
A crowd had gathered outside the café to the sound of it being vandalized, but no one tried to stop them from doing the damage, or from fleeing from the scene.
