Details of the man whose alleged negligence led to HIV positive blood being transfused to a pregnant woman at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), have been revealed.
Sun is aware that the suspect is Rajesh Baskaran, 32, from Kerala, India.
Media Official of Criminal Court Ahmed Mohamed Manik said that Criminal Court has given the suspect a detention period of seven days.
Deputy CEO of IGMH Dr Mohamed Habeeb said that the suspect is considered to have been negligent because he wrote in the report that the donor’s blood was HIV negative, after the test showed the blood to be HIV positive.
Speaking at a parliamentary committee hearing today, Dr Habeeb said that the suspect travelled to India suddenly on the day of the blood transfusion for personal reasons, and returned to Maldives two days later.
Dr Habeeb said that the suspect had confessed that it was his negligence that caused the transfusion of HIV positive blood to the pregnant woman, however, he had claimed that it was not done on purpose.
The suspect was arrested on Thursday night, on suspicion of negligence in the transfusion of HIV positive blood to a person.
