Two individuals sentenced to life imprisonment, fined MVR 100,000 for drug trafficking

Criminal Court has fined two people MVR 100,000 and sentenced them to life imprisonment for drug trafficking.

The convicts are Nisham, of Udhares, Seenu Hithadhoo; and Ahmed Irshad, of H. Redhan, Male’.

Criminal Court said in its ruling that on 8 July 2012, Irshad exited a shop in Maafannu, and handed a white envelope to Nisham, following which they were arrested near Galolhu Stadium by the police.

The court said that the contents of the envelope tested positive for diamorphine.

The court also ordered the State to claim MVR 10,140 that was found in Nisham’s possession, as Nisham could not prove that this money was not obtained through drug trafficking.
