MIRPUR, Bangladesh (AP) — Kumar Sangakkara's 17th international century led Sri Lanka to a strong 289-6 against Bangladesh in the second one-day International at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Thursday.
Sangakkara smashed 128 off 115, including 14 fours, while Ashan Priyanjan hit 60, his second half-century in his fourth one-day. They steered the side's recovery from a precarious 63-3, adding 114 for the fourth wicket.
Sangakkara was in complete control and apparently flawless. The Bangladeshi bowlers helped him, though, by regularly bowling too short.
Priyanjan was sluggish at the outset but survived twice.
On 0, he was dropped by Mahmudullah at slip while on 2, Nasir Hossain failed to grab a touch catch at deep mid-wicket. Sohag Gazi was the bowler on both occasions.
After surviving, he was watchful but released the pressure by hitting Gazi to the boundary through extra-cover.
Earlier, captain Angelo Mathews got the innings off at a quick pace, hitting 56 off 39 balls with six fours and one six. It was his 17th half-century in ODI cricket.
The Bangladeshi fielders missed a number of catches that helped Sri Lanka to make their innings healthy one.
For Bangladesh Rubel Hossain was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3-76, while Arafat Sunny, Shakib Al Hasan and Sohag Gazi took one wicket apiece.
Sri Lanka leads the three-match one-day series 1-0 after winning the first match by 13 runs.
