President of Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Adam Mohamed Abdulla has sent a letter to President Yameen Abdul Gayoom and Speaker of Parliament Abdulla Shahid, stating that member appointed to JSC by the parliament Bilehdhoo MP Ahmed Hamza has lost his JSC seat following his intention to contest for an elected political position.
Article 10 (b) of the JSC Act states that the post of a member of JSC shall be deemed vacant in the event that the member contests for a political post elected under the Constitution or a Law.
JSC said on its website that Adam Mohamed Abdulla said in his letter to the President and the Speaker, that it had been announced by the Elections Commission that MP Hamza had applied to contest the Parliamentary Election scheduled for 22 March 2014.
JSC reminded that earlier, Gasim Ibrahim also lost his seat at the commission following his application to contest the Presidential Election.
