Two audio clips, allegedly of former President Nasheed, have been leaked - one where he expresses disapproval over the appointment of former Defence Minister Ismail Shafeeu as head of Inquiry Commission, and another where he says that ‘ganja’ should be made available to those who use it.
His tone of voice suggests anger in the 33-second audio clip where he talks about Ismail Shafeeu being appointed as head of Inquiry Commission, a Commission set up by the President to investigate the events leading up to the transfer of power.
Nasheed says in this clip that he does not believe that any independent institutions exist in Maldives anymore. He noted that Shafeeu was Home Minister when Hassan Ivan Naseem of M. Asia was murdered. Nasheed does not believe that such a Commission can investigate the issues at hand, and says that Inquiry Commission should conduct an internationally-recognized investigation.
“…the government has appointed Ismail Shafeeu and three people to investigate that. Ismail Shafeeu is one of the people who inflicted violence on people when he was Home Minister. As Defence Minister he was the most [sound breaks] He was the Home Minister when Ivan Naseem was murdered,” Nasheed is heard saying in one audio clip.
In the other clip, he says that ‘ganja’ should be provided to kids who use it. The date of this audio clip is not known. In the short clip he says, “I think ‘ganja’ should be provided to those who use it!”
