Commonwealth Special Envoy disappointed at Majlis conduct

Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma’s Special Envoy to the Maldives Sir Donald McKinnon has said that he was disappointed at the manner in which the opening session of the Majlis was conducted yesterday. He is also said that he is concerned about the security situation in Male’.

A statement on the Commonwealth website says that he “calls on all sides to demonstrate maximum restraint”.

McKinnon will remain in Male’ to make his good offices available to all parties to find common ground.

The statement also quoted him, “I know that the situation can only be resolved through open and honest dialogue.”
