MP Alhan paralyzed from waist down after stabbing, says family

Feydhoo MP Alhan Fahmy has been stabbed in Breakwater restaurant in Artificial Beach, Male’. The stabbing took place around 9:00 p.m, Saturday night. According to Alhan’s younger brother Shazban Fahmy, Alhan was stabbed in the back and was soon transported to ADK Hospital. An eyewitness said Alhan was transported to ADK on the back of a pickup truck. The MP is reported to have lost a lot blood. Police Media Official said that an individual was arrested from the scene of the crime.

A member from MP Alhan’s family has confirmed that injuries sustained to the lower back has left the MP paralyzed from the waist down. However, the family member said that according to doctors, chances of the MP’s recovery are high if the surgery is successful.

MP Alhan’s family just revealed that the MP’s left leg is feared paralyzed due to damage to a spinal nerve. Alhan’s younger brother said the MP’s condition is still serious. The family said preparations are underway to fly Alhan to Sri Lanka for further treatment, on a Sri Lankan flight set to depart at 2:20 a.m. tonight.

Doctors are still working to contain Alhan’s bleeding. They say a major artery has been possibly punctured.

Police has revealed that the individual arrested from the scene is a 18-year-old male. The young man was arrested by two policemen active on the scene in plain clothes.

Speaking to Sun moments ago, a member from Alhan Fahmy's family said the MP's stab wound was deep and that he is in serious condition. Alhan is being treated in ADK hospital’s emergency room.
